What’s more memorable than being pregnant with your first child?  Maternity photography is so much more than just capturing the baby bump at it’s finest.  It’s the opportunity to showcase a couple celebrating the life they created together and honouring the mum-to-be’s transformation.  That’s exactly what I tried to do when Arienne and Tristan asked me to dabble in some Toronto maternity photography for them.

Arienne and I met roughly four years ago, at Toronto Travel Massive.  It is just one of the 140 chapters+ of the world’s largest network of travel industry insiders, influencers and innovators.  Each month, we’ve connected at our meet-ups, so when she made the announcement that her and her husband, Tristan, were expecting their first child everyone was overjoyed for them.  It was even more special for me when Arienne requested some maternity photography from me.

We planned to do the maternity photography session at Toronto’s Humber Bay Bridge Park.  As luck would have it, on my drive to meet with Arienne and Tristan, the skies were opening up and letting all the rain pour down.

ALL. THE. RAIN.

Thankfully, as I pulled up to their building, the rain had since stopped.  We took a few of our first shots in the little gazebo in their yard.  Lucky for us, it had been put in that very afternoon.  Then it was onward to Humber Bay Bridge Park – just a short 5-minute drive from their home.

There is nothing more satisfying to a photographer when your clients exude confidence. We love clients who are willing to let loose and just have fun with their session.  Since the couple have been travel blogging and creating great videos from their adventures for the last number of years – perhaps they had a bit more experience being in front of the camera – and it really paid off.

It was my first official maternity photography session, and I am ecstatic with the results.  Those big, dark rain clouds off in the distance provided a stunning backdrop.  Not to mention, I love the “calm before the storm” innuendo that one can read into it.

I can’t wait to meet this couple’s little girl after she makes her grand entrance in just a few short weeks.  With such adventurous parents, she’s sure to have plenty of wonderful adventures ahead!  Thanks to Arienne and Tristan for choosing me to capture this memorable time in your lives!
