burlington child & family portraits

I may be biased, but I believe I live in such a picturesque area.  When Christine and Lawrence contacted me to do photos of their 2.5 year old son, Jack, I knew the perfect place for our session, Burlington’s Village Square.  This session was shot in May 2016, when I was still starting up with my business and building my portfolio.  I hadn’t quite figured out what it was that I wanted to focus on, in terms of niches.  I didn’t see myself photographing children, or considering myself competition to other Burlington Child & Family Portraits photographers, but I was very open to trying different subjects to see what felt right. Above all, I believe in not only delivering authentic, natural photographs to my clients, but also running my business in a way that feels authentic to me.

I’m so glad I took the opportunity to dip my toes into the Burlington Child & Family Portraits arena and photograph this little two and a half year old! Jack was an absolute riot to work with.  At first he was a bit shy, but curious about my large camera. Before I knew it, he was hamming it up! We were so lucky that the square was quieter that day, and Jack took every advantage of it!  I had a ball following him as he ran around, climbed stairs and generally explored the new environment.

Christine and Lawrence got in a few of the photos, and I think the pictures speak for themselves.  This is truly a beautiful family and their love for one another shines through! The challenge, I found, with doing Child & Family portraits in such a way that is natural and authentic, is making sure that everyone is comfortable. I know how difficult it is to try to act naturally and forget there’s someone following you around with a huge camera.  That said, I think Christine and Lawrence really relished this time with their son and together the four of us captured some beautiful moments.

Since our shoot, Christine and Lawrence have welcomed a beautiful baby girl, named Desiree.  I am beyond excited for the weather to get nicer so I can capture new memories of the four of them!  Be sure to keep an eye out for it, later this year.

For now, take a peek at my first take at doing Burlington Child & Family Portraits!

  1. What can a grandmother say more than that Melissa? i certainly could not agree with you more. And Yes Jack is just gorgeous! Plus Baby Desirae is just as beautiful. As a grandmother I cannot and will not hold back blowing my horn when it comes to this beautiful family. Chrissy and Lawrence are amazing parents and the two of them have created and given me the most precious grand kids. Last but not least Melissa you are one amazing photographer, your talent and creativity reflects thru your photos. Thank you so much for sharing these.

    1. Alma, you are so kind and have absolutely every right to toot that horn – your daughter, and grandchildren are all gorgeous inside and out. I can’t wait to capture more memories with baby Desirae and Mr. Jack!
